Yes, that’s what I said. Bacon. Guacamole. Dip. Let that sink in, kids. Yet another one of those recipes that elicits a head slap and a rush to my kitchen.
On a recent trip to my local grocery store, I happened to see a prepackaged container of guacamole that was layered with bacon. Being the good little carnivore that I am, I stopped short and immediately put 4 containers in my cart. And then I took them back out. I mean, hello–did I really need to pay $5.99 for something that I could make in excess quantities for the same price? No! But I did need to rush to the produce section and pick out some ripe avocados, and then scurry to the meat department for some bacon.
With football season upon us, I’m always looking for extra and easy items to make for munching on while we cheer on the Buckeyes & Gamecocks, and Bengals & Steelers. My teams, and the hubster’s teams. (When they play each other, it can get interesting in this house.) No matter which team wins, at least we can comfort ourselves with tasty treats, right? And what is better to either celebrate a win or console oneself after a loss than something with BACON?
This is a take on a traditional guacamole, but amped up to make it smoother and create a better base for incorporating the salty, crunchy bacon. Each bite includes that creamy avocado, the kick of the cumin and pepper, and the salty and smoky goodness of the bacon.
It’s a winner no matter who is playing!

This kicked up version of guacamole will become your go-to version once you get a taste. Smoky, salty, crunchy bacon in this creamy classic is a combo whose time has come--and will continue to show up on my party table for many-a-tailgate gathering. Go Team Bacon!

- 4 ripe avocados, pitted and chopped
- 1/2 medium lime, juiced
- 1/2 medium red onion, finely chopped
- 3 medium vine ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup low-fat sour cream
- 1 tbsp. cumin
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
- 2 slices bacon, cooked, cooled and crumbled
- Slice the avocados and, in a medium sized bowl, mash with a fork.
- Add juice of 1/2 lime and stir to incorporate. This will help slow the change of color of the avocados.
- Add the cumin, salt & pepper, and stir into avocados.
- Add the chopped onion and sour cream. Mix to incorporate fully.
- Gently fold in the tomatoes until distributed throughout avocado mixture.
- Fold in 3/4 of the bacon pieces to ensure each bite will get a salty, smoky burst.
- Top with additional tomatoes and bacon. Serve with tortilla chips, or any dipper of your choice!
Like just about any dip recipe, this can be changed up depending on the crowd you're serving it to. You could add jalapenos or habaneros for a real kick. Use white onions instead of red if you like (or if you're allergic to the red ones like my sister!). Add cilantro or white pepper for an additional punch of Tex-Mex flavors. Or even swap out the sour cream with Greek yogurt. But for your taste buds' sake, don't forget the bacon!
Any way you mix it, your team mates will cheer for joy when they see this hit the party table!
Just made this. Scaled it down and used Greek yogurt. Amazing!
Great recipe Dee Dee, thanks!
Yeay!!! So glad it was a success!
I’ve never had a dip with bacon in it but it sounds amazing! Bacon makes everything better!
This looks amazing!! Bacon & avocados are always a perfect combination!
Seriously, what ISN’T better with a little bacon?? 🙂 Looks great!
Why…WHY have I never put bacon in my guacamole before?! This is such an awesome idea!!! Can’t wait to try it!
I admit I’m something of a purist when it comes to my guacamole but I’ll make an exception here. Doesn’t everything taste better with bacon? I thought so too!
